CHANTILLY HIGH SCHOOL PULLS AWAY IN FINAL SECONDS TO TOP OAKTON HIGH SCHOOL
1/28/25 – The Oakton High School Cougars had the ball with 28 seconds to play and down by three points. But Oakton quickly turned the ball over and never got a chance for a shot. Chantilly’s Alivia Tarry was fouled and then sank two free throws to put the game out of reach. The Chantilly High School Chargers went on to win, 48-42.
The score was close the entire game.
The first half went back and forth with Oakton getting six points from Jocelynn Kinlaw and seven points from Brooke Chang. Chantilly continually ran their offense by passing down low to their center, Alexandra Wilson, who scored 11 points in the half. When she got the ball, Wilson would either make a low post move or pass the ball out to one of her teammates. The score was tied at 19 at halftime.
After being quiet in the first half, Chantilly’s Emerson Mustard dominated the third quarter. By aggressively driving to the basket, Mustard scored 10 points, and Chantilly took a 6 point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Oakton kept it close in the fourth quarter but Chantilly’s Anjali Borra could not be stopped. Borra scored on strong drives to the basket, from foul shots and a three-pointer, scoring 11 points in the final quarter.
Chantilly was led by Mustard, 14 points; Wilson, 13 points; and Borra with 11 points. Kinlaw and Toole had 13 points and 12 points, respectively, for Oakton.
