WILLIAM PENN CHARTER POWERS THROUGH HOLY CHILD IN SECOND HALF
12/27/24 — Despite trailing William Penn Charter School (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) by four points in the first half, Connelly School of the Holy Child (Potomac, Maryland) could not keep up after a 25-2 third quarter run by William Penn.
The final score between the two out-of-state teams at Cassel’s Holiday Classic at Oakton High School was 61-34.
William Penn’s second-half domination was a collective team effort, with seven players scoring buckets. Senior Kaylinn Bethea led William Penn with a total of 16 points; junior Marleigh Jackson, 14 points; senior Ava DiBendetto, 8 points; and sophomore Laila Sharp, 6 points.
Holy Child lacked offense in the second half, scoring only seven points. Freshman Charis Mershon put up a solid performance, knocking down three 3-pointers and totaling 15 points for the game.
