MARYLAND’S BISHOP MCNAMARA TOPS VIRGINIA’S BISHOP IRETON

1/29/2025 -Bishop McNamara High School, the number one ranked team in Maryland, defeated Bishop Ireton High School, 62-54, before a packed boisterous crowd in Alexandria, Virginia.

The first quarter went back and forth with Bishop McNamara’s Zhen Craft, a University of Georgia commit, scoring seven points in the quarter. Bishop Ireton’s Theresa Hagans, a University of Pittsburgh commit, scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and gave Bishop Ireton a 19-18 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Bishop McNamara’s 6’ 2” Nevaeh Roberson scored 8 points down low. But Hagans continued her scoring by adding 7 points in the quarter, giving Bishop Ireton a one point lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Bishop McNamara scored the first 8 points of the quarter and outscored Bishop Ireton 18-8. Bishop McNamara never lost the lead. Bishop McNamara had balanced scoring in the quarter with Vanessa Harris scoring 6 points and each of Qandace Samuels and NyAir McCoy each scoring 4 points.

McCoy, Bishop McNamara’s sophomore point guard and the smallest player on the court, took over in the fourth quarter. She scored 10 of Bishop McNamara’s 12 points in the quarter and drove and dished off down low to her teammates all night.

High scorers for Bishop McNamara were McCoy with 18 points and Craft with 14 points. Hagans had 18 points and Nyla Brooks had 17 points for Bishop Ireton.
