SOUTH COUNTY EASILY DEFEATS ROBINSON FOR PATRIOT DISTRICT TITLE

Article |

2/21/25 – This was an old-fashioned blow out. South County High School dominated the game from start to finish to defeat Robinson Secondary School, 49-21, to win the Patriot District title.

Tonight’s game featured the No. 1 seed Robinson versus the No. 2 seed South County. Back in January, Robinson beat South County by seven points and last month, South County beat Robinson by two points. This was the grudge match and the expectation was that this would be an exciting competitive game – but it wasn’t.

Robinson simply could not score on South County’s zone defense. Robinson spent the night passing the ball around the perimeter and was not able to get any good looks inside or outside.

Robinson only scored two points in the first quarter, and seven points in the second quarter. In the meantime, South County was on a tear getting balanced scoring from Juelle Lisenby, Laila Tull, Natalya Wooten and Makyah Mason. South County took a 26-9 lead at halftime.

Whatever hopes Robinson had for a second half comeback were quickly dashed by South County in the third quarter. South County continued scoring with drives to the basket and outside shots, and outscored Robinson 19-3 in the quarter.

Robinson sensation, Georgia Simonsen, was unable to do much scoring tonight and was taken out of the game midway through the third quarter. Prior to the game, she seemed to injure her leg in warm-ups and had her coaches and a trainer attend to her while she was sprawled out on the floor. Simonsen had a slight limp the entire game and did not appear to be her usual self. But even if Simonsen was at full strength, there was no stopping South County tonight.

South County was led by Tull, 13 points; Mason, 12 points; and Wooten, 10 points.
