Chantilly Rallies Past Washington-Liberty, Advances to Region Semifinals
2/24/26: The Chantilly Chargers erased an early deficit and delivered a poised second-half performance to defeat the Washington-Liberty Generals, 54–47, in the Class 6 regional quarterfinals Tuesday night.
With the win, Chantilly improves to 17–8 and advances to the regional semifinals. Washington-Liberty’s season comes to a close at 19–5.
The Generals set the tone early. Sisters Eve and Anna Jungman combined for eight first-quarter points, helping Washington-Liberty build a 15–9 lead by the end of the opening period.
But Chantilly responded quickly in the second quarter. Abby Goodman knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game, swinging momentum in the Chargers’ favor. Chantilly’s Alivia Tarry added two baskets in the period, surpassing the 1,000-point milestone for her career. Despite seven second-quarter points from Kathryn Wagener that kept the Generals within striking distance, Chantilly edged ahead to take a one-point lead into halftime.
The turning point came in the third quarter. Chantilly tightened its defense and outscored Washington-Liberty by seven points in the frame. Alex Wilson sparked the surge, scoring seven of her team-high 17 points during the quarter to extend the Chargers’ advantage.
Protecting a lead in the fourth, Chantilly slowed the tempo and executed a deliberate offensive approach, patiently working the ball and draining valuable time off the clock. But Anna Jungman was able to bring the Generals within three points on a clutch three-pointer with 1:32 remaining, but Washington-Liberty could not close the gap further. Tarry sealed the victory by making seven free throws in the final minutes.
Chantilly showcased balanced scoring in the win. Wilson led with 17 points, Tarry finished with 15, Amelia Hilton added 10, and Goodman contributed eight. Anna Jungman paced all scorers with 18 points for Washington-Liberty.
