Coutinho Leads James Robinson High School Past Flint Hill School
12/27/24 — James Robertson High School came out in the first half with a swarming man-to-man defense, taking a commanding 30-15 half time lead. James Robinson went on to victory 48-34. James Robinson’s Madison Coutinho poured in 16 points and Georgia Simonsen added 12 points.
It was the defense, however, that ruled the day for James Robinson. Coutinho typically plays her full court aggressive defense against an opponent’s point guard — but not tonight. Instead, Coutinho was assigned the task of stopping Flint High School’s bigger and stronger all-state point guard Raigan McCalla. And Coutinho did not disappoint. Playing her relentless defense, Coutinho made every possession difficult for McCalla.
With a large lead, Coutinho sat out the fourth quarter, and McCalla had 10 points when Coutinho exited the game. McCalla finished with 17. Freshman London Augustin was assigned the task of playing defense on Flint’s point guard. Augustin clearly learned how to play defense from Coutinho and showed that she too can play aggressive full court man-to-man defense like her teammate. She will certainly be a key player for the successful future of James Robinson's girls basketball program.
