HAYFIELD TOPS FALLS CHURCH 61-26

Article |

Playing without star point guard, Alexis Cox, the Hayfield Secondary School Hawks could not shake the Falls Church High School Jaguars in the first half. Hayfield led 11-9 after the first quarter and 19-15 at halftime.

But the second half was a different story. Hayfield’s aggressive defense and use of its superior height was too much for the Jaguars. They outscored the Jaguars by 14 points in the third quarter, taking a commanding 43-25 lead. Hayfield’s six-foot freshman, Rylee Spinner, led the charge for the Hawks by scoring nine points in the third quarter and 13 points for the game. Hayfield had a balanced scoring attack with four players, including Spinner, in double figures: Courtney Breland, 11 points; Mariah Overton, 11 points and Madison Davis, 10 points. Falls Church’s Ainsley Phillips had 10 points. The next few years looks bright for Hayfield as it is a very young team – Spinner and sophomore 6’1’’ Ziyana Williams have the potential of being one of the best post player tandems in the area.

Cox is expected to be back with the team for the next game.
