South County Dominates West Potomac to Capture Patriot District Championship

Article |

2/20/26 : The South County Stallions delivered a commanding performance on their home court Friday night, defeating the West Potomac Wolverines 67–49 to claim the Patriot District Championship.

With the win, South County extended its remarkable streak to 24 consecutive victories after dropping its season opener. The Stallions now stand at 24–1 and enter the postseason as one of the region’s hottest teams.

From the opening tip, South County set the tone. The Stallions moved the ball crisply, attacking both the paint and the perimeter until they found open looks — and they rarely missed. South County buried five three-pointers in the first quarter alone — two each from Laila Tull and Anna Marsh, and one from Makyah Mason — to surge ahead 19–5 by the end of the period.

While the Stallions executed with precision offensively, West Potomac struggled to find rhythm. The Wolverines committed six first-quarter turnovers and were forced to play from behind the rest of the night. Despite entering the game 19–4, including two prior losses to South County, West Potomac was unable to mount a serious comeback.

Marsh led the Stallions with 16 points and was scoring from the three point line and from drives to the basket. Tull, who was honored as Patriot District Player of the Year before the game, added 14 points. Mason contributed 15, and Natalya Wooten chipped in 12, giving South County four players in double figures.

West Potomac was led by Beddis with 17 points, while Dawn Houston added 13 and Skylar Strother finished with 10.

Both teams have secured berths in next week’s Regional Tournament, but Friday night belonged to South County — a team peaking at precisely the right time.
