2/17/2026: The Osbourn Park Yellowjackets delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night, defeating the Gainesville Cardinals 71–44 to claim the Cedar Run District Championship in front of a boisterous home crowd.

With the victory, Osbourn Park improved to 19–5 on the season and completed a three-game sweep of Gainesville. The Cardinals fell to 18–7.

Gainesville entered the championship battle riding an impressive season that included statement wins over South County High School and Centreville High School, and early on, the Cardinals showed they would not go quietly.

Senior forward Leylani Abraham, a 6-foot-3 presence in the paint, scored two quick baskets to give Gainesville an early edge and spark hopes of an upset.

But that momentum was short-lived.

Osbourn Park’s relentless full-court press quickly shifted the game’s momentum. The Yellowjackets swarmed defensively, forcing at least 10 backcourt turnovers in the first half alone and disrupting Gainesville’s offensive rhythm.

Despite the pressure, Gainesville managed to stay ahead in the opening quarter thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Reese Hill, giving the Cardinals a slim two-point lead after one. Janey Salinas paced Osbourn Park early with six first-quarter points.

The game turned decisively in the second quarter.

Osbourn Park found its shooting touch while continuing to clamp down defensively using its press, outscoring Gainesville 19–4 in the period. The Yellowjackets carried a commanding 30–17 lead into halftime. Samia Snead led the surge with 10 second-quarter points.

The Cardinals showed resilience coming out of the break. By feeding the ball inside to Abraham and 6-foot-1 Peyton White, Gainesville mounted a third-quarter rally. White, held scoreless in the first half, erupted for nine points in the quarter as the Cardinals started to trim the deficit.

But every time Gainesville threatened, Osbourn Park answered.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Salinas and Jayel West halted the comeback and swung momentum firmly back to the Yellowjackets. Keyarah Rainey took control late in the third, scoring 10 points in the period to extend the lead to 16 heading into the fourth.

Osbourn Park put the game away in the final quarter, overwhelming Gainesville with balanced scoring and suffocating defense to seal the 27-point victory.

Salinas, who played a strong overall game, finished with a game-high 20 points, while Rainey added 15 and Snead contributed 14 in a well-rounded championship effort. White led Gainesville with 17 points.
