SIMONSEN SCORES 23 POINTS TO LEAD ROBINSON OVER WOODSON HIGH SCHOOL
2/20/25 – Senior Georgia Simonsen scored 23 points to lead Robinson Secondary School over Woodson High School, 41-15, in a Patriot District semi-final game.
The game was never in doubt as Simonsen scored nine points in the opening quarter helping her team move out in front 11-0. The second quarter was not any better for Woodson as they were only able to score three points, and fell behind 23-7 at halftime.
And Simonsen had help. Her teammate, London Augustin, a quick athletic 9th grader, played well all night and knocked down nine points.
Robinson’s point guard, Madison Coutinho, although relatively quiet on offense, played her usual game – constant hustle and tenacious defense. When these teams met earlier in the season, Woodson’s Emma Komaily was her team’s high scorer with 14 points. Tonight, Coutinho played defense on Komaily, a talented player, all night and prevented her from scoring.
Coutinho also had so many steals that it was impossible to count. In one sequence in the third quarter, she had three steals in a span of one minute. Also, she has this unique ability of chasing down opposing players from behind and stealing the ball. Most good defenders can do this once or twice per season, but Coutinho seems to do this every game. Tonight, she stole the ball this way twice.
Although Robinson easily handled Woodson tonight, tomorrow night’s Patriot District final game against South County, at South County High School at 8 pm, will be much tougher.
