WEST POTOMAC’S TEAM CHEMISTRY EVIDENT IN WIN AGAINST LAKE BRADDOCK
1/16/25 – In a dominating first half full of productive offense and locked-in defense, West Potomac High School handily defeated Lake Braddock Secondary School, keeping them to just 5 points at halftime. The final score was 68-25.
West Potomac seemed to shoot the lights out, while Lake Braddock struggled getting their shots to fall.
West Potomac Coach Joe Petrucelli began the game by putting his team in a 1-2-2 defensive press and utilizing traps, which ignited West Potomac’s offense due to many turnovers from Lake Braddock.
Senior Olivia Jones had a strong first half – she started out the game with an and-one drive, followed by three three-pointers and a drive to finish off the first quarter. She led her team with 22 points.
Before closing the first quarter 28-2, West Potomac senior Jill Humphreys caught two quick steals and converted them to two easy layups. In the second quarter, junior sharpshooter Abigail Beddis nailed down three three-pointers for West Potomac. She was her team’s second leading scorer with 11 points.
Junior Dawn Houston and sophomore Delores Harkless also had strong performances for West Potomac. Houston contributed all of her 10 points in the second quarter, knocking down two three-pointers, and Harkless added 7 points.
Lake Braddock senior Elizabeth So and junior Emma Cajchun were the only players to get a pair of shots to fall in the first half for their team. The score at halftime was 55-5.
Following the half, Coach Joe Petrucelli finished the remainder of the game with his bench players. West Potomac was then led by freshman Olivia Cicero, who closed the night with 7 points, all of which were in the final quarter. Sophomore Pietrina Copty also added 5 points for West Potomac in the second half.
Lake Braddock picked up their offensive a bit in the second half. Juniors Mackenzie Burger and Amy Ferreira each dished in 6 points. Ferreira’s points came off of two three-pointers. Cajchun also added 5 points.
