1/16/26 — Mariah Overton scored a game-high 15 points and played relentless man-to-man defense to lead Hayfield Secondary School to a 52–44 victory over Edison High School on Friday night.

Edison’s sophomore Giselle Hunter sparked the Eagles early, scoring eight points in the first quarter. Edison briefly held a one-point lead with about 90 seconds remaining, but Hayfield junior Keira Esainko drained two three-pointers late in the period to give the Hawks a 16–11 advantage after one quarter.

Hayfield extended its lead in the second quarter behind Eva Phillips, who scored nine of her 11 points in the period. Edison stayed within striking distance as Hunter, Regan Kauffman, and Kennedy Marshall consistently attacked the basket, but the Hawks carried an eight-point lead into halftime.

The teams traded baskets in an evenly played third quarter, with Hunter scoring six points for Edison and Overton adding seven for Hayfield.

Hayfield pulled away in the fourth quarter, holding Edison scoreless from the field until Sophia Lyon’s two-pointer with three minutes remaining. By then, the Hawks’ lead proved too much for the Eagles to overcome.

Phillips finished with 11 points and Charlotte Winkelmann added eight for Hayfield. Hunter led Edison with 18 points, while Marshall scored 11 and Kauffman chipped in eight.
