LANGLEY DEFEATS WASHINGTON-LIBERTY
1/15/25 – The Langley High School Saxons scored two points on the opening tip off and never lost the lead.
After being down by six points after the first quarter, Washington-Liberty’s 6’2’’ junior Eve Jungman dominated the first seven minutes of the second quarter by scoring two baskets, blocking shots and getting numerous rebounds. Washington-Liberty chipped the lead down to one point with 90 seconds remaining in the half before Langley freshman Mariah Armah scored off of two drives during the last minute to increase the Saxons lead to five points at halftime.
To start the third quarter, Armah scored the first five points, contributing to a 12-0 run by Langley. Senior Anya Rahman and junior Madison Shamloo each scored five points for Langley in the third quarter, helping their team gain a 38-22 advantage.
Washington-Liberty fought back in the fourth quarter and got the lead down to 9 points, but Rahman hit two 3-pointers to put the game out of reach.
Carnegie Mellon bound Rayman ended up with 19 points for Langley, and freshmen teammates Armah and Alice Allen each contributed 14 points. Washington-Liberty was led by Jungman, 12 points and Frances Shapiro, 9 points.
