FRESHMEN ALLEN AND ARMAH POWER LANGLEY HIGH SCHOOL PAST MCLEAN HIGH SCHOOL

2/13/25 – The Langley High School Saxons have a record of 19 wins and 3 losses, even collecting a win over highly ranked Robinson Secondary School (19-2) earlier this season. But what is remarkable about Langley is that they did this with two freshmen in the starting lineup.

Alice Allen and Mariah Armah are only in 9th grade but they are having a big impact on their team. Tonight, Allen and Armah scored 23 out of the Saxon’s 27 first-half points to lead Langley to a 58-37 victory over the McLean High School Highlanders.

McLean was not able to run its offense effectively in the first half against Langley’s man-to-man defense. McLean was down by 13 after the first half.

Langley outscored McLean 16-8 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Langley’s Madison Shamloo got the task of guarding McLean’s Emory bound high scorer, Tatum Olson, during the first half, and then Allen took a turn guarding Olson in the third quarter. Olson was only able to score 6 points during this time. But it was Allen and Armah who dominated the game tonight with Allen collecting 13 points in the first half and Armah with 10 – and they did more than score. They both played good defense, passed well and showed impressive poise on the court.

With Allen and Armah carrying the scoring load, there was no pressure on their talented teammate, senior Anya Rahman to score. But Rahman did finish with 11 points including a few nice drives to the basket and a step-back 3 pointer.

Allen finished with 19 points and Armah had 16 points. Olsen and Cora Stevens had 12 points and 10 points, respectively, for McLean.
