West Potomac Holds Off Robinson to Reach Patriot District Finals
2/19/2026: Despite a sensational 30-point performance from Robinson’s London Augustin, West Potomac earned a hard-fought 55–47 victory over Robinson in the Patriot District semifinal Thursday night.
Having already defeated Robinson twice during the regular season — by 26 and 16 points — West Potomac entered the matchup as the clear favorite. But the Rams had other plans, pushing the Wolverines to the brink in a game that was far tighter than their previous meetings.
West Potomac’s Abby Beddis set the tone early, threading a crisp pass to Lina Hashimi before knocking down an eight-foot jumper of her own. Beddis scored six points in the opening quarter, while Delores Harkless added five. Robinson leaned entirely on Augustin who scored all of seven of the Rams’ first-quarter points. Robinson trailed by 6 points at the end of the quarter.
Robinson continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, outplaying West Potomac for much of the period and trimming the deficit to just two points with under 30 seconds remaining. But Beddis responded with another clutch eight-footer, and Harkless followed with a steal in the backcourt that led to a three-point play, stretching the Wolverines’ lead to seven at halftime.
The Rams stormed out in the third quarter with an 8–0 run to seize their first lead of the game, 28–27. Just as momentum seemed to shift, Dawn Houston — who had been held scoreless in the first half — sparked West Potomac with seven points in the quarter. Augustin answered with six points of her own, while Lanise Dixon powered in two strong baskets to keep Robinson within striking distance. West Potomac carried a slim three-point lead into the final period.
Augustin opened the fourth quarter with a steal and layup, cutting the deficit to one. But the Wolverines responded with an 8–0 run that extended their advantage to nine — a lead they would not relinquish. Houston and Harkless each scored seven points in the quarter to steady West Potomac down the stretch. Robinson’s late-game strategy was clear: put the ball in Augustin’s hands and let her create. She delivered, scoring 13 points in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
Harkless led the Wolverines with 18 points, followed by Houston with 14. Beddis added 10 points and showcased her playmaking ability throughout the night, while Hashimi contributed eight points. Hashimi is often the unsung hero in many of West Potomac’s victories this season. In addition to scoring, Hashimi did a bit of everything tonight – she played solid defense, blocked shots and was very effective driving to the basket against other post players.
With the win, West Potomac advances to the Patriot District final, where it will face South County High School. Having dropped both regular-season meetings to South County, the Wolverines will enter the championship game as underdogs.
