WEST POTOMAC TOPS WEST SPRINGFIELD
12/20/24 - There are a lot of good things you can say about the No. 2 ranked team in Virgina, West Potomac – they shoot well, they pass well and they play solid defense - but physically they are not the biggest and strongest team in the area. Tonight, West Potomac faced West Springfield, a bigger and stronger team. Fortunately for West Potomac, they had Jill Humphreys. Humphreys, a senior and West Potomac’s most physical player, came off the bench and dominated the first half with 16 points. Her 16 first half points came from a 3 pointer, drives to the basket, foul shots and from offensive rebounds. And she did not just score – she played physical defense, rebounded and made timely passes. As a result of her play, West Potomac led at halftime 29-15.
But, to their credit, West Springfield did not give up.They got the lead down to 7 points toward the end of the third quarter but West Potomac point guard Olivia Jones, scored 4 quick points to extend the lead to 11 points. In the fourth quarter, West Springfield came up with another rally but West Potomac junior Dawn Houston scored 4 quick points to keep Wests Potomac on track.Jill Humphreys was the leading scorer in the game with 22 points and Dawn Houston, who had a strong game, scored 19 before she fouled out.
